There is a specific kind of touch that switches your nervous system out of alert. It is steady, even pressure across the whole body.
A weighted blanket is how you deliver it. Most people treat it as a comfort object and miss what it is doing.
You have tried the supplements and the dark room. This works through your skin, not your bloodstream. Your skin carries pressure sensors that report back to your brain constantly. Broad, sustained pressure reads to them as containment, not threat.
Light or shifting contact does the opposite. It keeps the sensors reporting movement, and your brain stays half on guard. On guard, you sleep in a lighter, more restless gear. You surface at small disturbances and never settle into the deep stage for long.
Steady weight quiets that reporting. Your brain reads the room as safe and lets you sink. That is the difference between waking restless and waking rested. The night held you still enough to go deep.
In a randomized trial published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, people with insomnia slept under either a weighted chain blanket or a light one for four weeks. The weighted group ended the study with far less severe insomnia. Those participants also had psychiatric conditions alongside their insomnia. In a healthy sleeper the effect is likely smaller, so treat it as a strong nudge, not a cure.
What is not in doubt is the sensory route. Broad, deep pressure lowers physiological arousal, and that finding is well documented.
TONIGHT
Choose a weighted blanket around ten percent of your body weight. Heavier is not better, and too heavy makes people throw it off in the night.
Get under it in the last hour, as you settle, so the pressure is on before you drop off. Not thrown over you once you are already stirring at 3am. Pick a breathable one so it does not trap heat against you. Warmth would work against the cooling your body needs to go deep. Skip it if you have a breathing or circulation condition, and never put one on a young child. If you feel confined rather than settled, it is the wrong tool for you.

The pressure you settle under in the last hour is the signal that tells your brain to stop guarding you. Give it weight, and the night finally holds still enough to go deep.
